Connect a receipt printer on Android

POSBack officeUpdated 2 November 2026

On an Android phone or tablet, the POS can print every bill on a receipt printer by itself, with no tap. You connect the printer once on each phone, and the phone remembers it.

What you need

  • An Android phone or tablet with Chrome.
  • A receipt printer that connects over Bluetooth LE, or a USB receipt printer with an OTG cable. Most 58 mm and 80 mm receipt printers sold since 2022 have Bluetooth LE.

Some older printers have only classic Bluetooth, and Chrome cannot connect to them. Those printers still work the PDF way: tap Print on the bill, then share it to the printer's own app.

Connect the printer

  1. Turn the printer on and keep it near the phone. If the printer asks for a PIN, pair it in the phone's Bluetooth settings first.
  2. In the POS on a phone, tap Shift at the top, then Receipt printer. On a tablet or a computer, tap your initials at the top right, then Receipt printer.
  3. Select Bluetooth or USB cable, and the paper width: 58 mm or 80 mm.
  4. Tap Find printer. Chrome shows a list of printers. Select yours and tap Pair.
  5. Tap Test print. If the slip reads well, the printer is ready.

Chrome asks which printer only the first time. After that, the printer icon in the top bar is green and every bill prints when the sale completes.

Printer settings on the POS

Tap the printer icon in the top bar to change:

  • Print after every sale: turn it off to print only when you tap Print.
  • Copies: up to 3.
  • Open the cash drawer on cash sales: for a cash drawer plugged into the printer. The drawer opens only when the sale is made. It does not open when you print a bill again.
  • Paper width.
  • Forget this printer: to connect a different one.

Each phone has its own printer. Another counter connects its own.

When the printer does not print

The sale is always saved. If the printer does not answer, the POS shows Bill not printed:

  • Try again: after checking the printer is on, has paper and is near the phone.
  • Send on WhatsApp instead: if the bill has the customer's phone number.
  • Skip: print it later.

While the printer cannot be reached, the printer icon in the top bar is red and shows how many bills did not print. Tap it to:

  • Reconnect, then print the bills that did not print, in one go.
  • Turn off printing today.

After the phone restarts, Chrome may ask once to allow the printer again. Tap the red printer icon, then Allow the printer again.

Tamil and other languages

Receipt printers have no Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam letters of their own. The POS prints those lines, and the ₹ sign, as a picture, so they print on any printer. Those lines take a little longer to print than English.

iPhone

An iPhone does not let the POS connect to a Bluetooth printer. On an iPhone, Print opens the share sheet: tap Print, or send the bill to the printer's own app.

What prints on the receipt

In the back office, open Settings, select the shop and then Receipts. There you can set:

  • New counters print after every sale
  • Paper width for new counters
  • Barcode of the bill number: scan it at the POS to find the bill for a return.
  • UPI QR when the bill is unpaid: for exactly what is still owed. This needs the shop's UPI ID in Payments at the POS.
  • Line at the bottom: for example, "Thank you, visit again!".

To see which counters have a printer, open POS terminals. The Printer column shows what each phone reports.
